Social media users descend on coach Opeele for claiming Bawumia constructed Tamale Interchange

Isaac Adade Opeele Boateng (Coach Opeele), a former coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, has drawn criticism from social media users after he credited Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with the construction of the Tamale Interchange.

On Monday, April 29, 2024, Coach Opeele posted footage of the interchange, commending the New Patriotic Party's flagbearer for spearheading the project.

His post incited a wave of criticism from Ghanaians who labelled him inconsistent and hypocritical.

The social media users questioned why Coach Opeele, who usually resists attributing the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government's economic woes to the vice president, would now assign him the accolade for a government achievement.

A tweet highlighted by GhanaWeb read, "So Bawumia was permitted to construct flyovers but not given the chance to lead as the head of EMT? We learn every day."

Another user remarked, "Bawumia was allowed to build a road but couldn't stop the E-Levy from being enacted and enforced. I thought it was the president who built roads."

About the Tamale Interchange

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated the Tamale Interchange on May 29, 2022.

The funding for the interchange was sourced from the Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) between the government and the Sinohydro Corporation Company of China.

The Naa Gbewaa Interchange links the road from Dakpema Palace, through 'Point 7', the Central Taxi Rank, and the Central Market Intersection, to Sakasaka Road.
